Damage, dings and repairs

Got a ding? Don’t worry. We’ll guide you through exactly what to do - whether it’s a quick fix or something we should handle for you.

If the core is intact

If the fiberglass cracks due to impact (reef, rocks, other boards, cars, etc.) but the internal core is intact, your board can be repaired just like any standard epoxy board using a typical ding repair kit. Your board uses epoxy resin, so make sure any repair uses epoxy-compatible materials.

If the Core Is Damaged

If you suspect that the core of your board may be damaged, reach out to us and we'll make sure to guide you with the best solution.

Because our boards use a thermoplastic 3D-printed core, we are able to perform structural welding repairs to restore broken skin or internal walls without compromising performance and feel.

If Water Gets Inside

If a major crack allows water to enter the board, don’t panic - Swellcycle boards are designed with internal chambers that limit how far water can spread. That way, water will remain contained within a specific section of the core rather than saturating the entire board.

What To Do Immediately:

  1. Do not allow water to sit inside for extended periods.
  2. Drain the water as soon as possible.
  3. Bring your board to our shop so we can repair it.

If the crack is small and water appears trapped, you may carefully drill a small drainage hole at the lowest point of the board (on the bottom) to help release trapped water.

If you are unsure, contact us quickly.

Damaged core? We’ll take care of it.

If you suspect or notice that the core may be damaged, do not attempt repair
and reach out to us first. We'll make sure to guide you with the best solution. If needed, we’ll evaluate the board and take care of the structural repair so you can get back in the water quickly.

How do we repair our boards?

The internal structure of our boards (the “core”) is 3D-printed from PLA - a plant-based thermoplastic. Unlike traditional foam, PLA can be gently reheated and reshaped. That means if the core is damaged, it can often be welded and reinforced rather than replaced.

This makes structural repairs straightforward and accessible when done properly.
