The Shaper Promise

The shape is yours. Our work is the core.

We make boards exclusively in collaboration with shapers - both big names and emerging shapers. When you trust us with your design, here’s what we’re committed to:

Your shape stays yours

  • You keep full ownership of every design you send us: combination of outline, rocker, foil, rails and model name.
  • Your name is the lead brand on anything made from your shape. Our logo may appear too. 

Your file is used only for what you approve

  • Every file comes with a stated, agreed-upon purpose, such as “print demo core,” and that’s all we use it for.
  • We won’t copy, modify, resize or create variations of your design from your file without your OK.
  • We won’t use your file or design data to develop shapes or products of our own.

You can see what we do, and pull the plug if you want

  • Every core printed from your shape gets a serial number attached to a log file. You can ask for that log file anytime.
  • Your files are stored securely, and only the people working on your board will access them.
  • If we part ways, we return or delete your files.

How we work together

Shapers come to us at different points. Some are building boards for themselves, testing a new design, trying the technology, or just curious. Others are ready to partner and sell their boards through our site. All of them get the same promise. The stage just determines what else applies.

  • Making boards for yourself. You design it, we build the core. The commitments above cover everything: your ownership, your files, your control.
  • Becoming a partner. When you’re ready to sell boards through swellcyclesurfboards.com, we formalize the relationship in writing and the royalty terms below apply.

Partner Royalties

  • You decide what your royalty is. That amount is built into the final price of the board — one clean price to the customer, yours included.
  • Every time one of your boards sells, your royalty comes to you.

What we ask in return

  • Demo boards are for evaluation. They aren’t for resale without prior agreement.
  • How we build it stays ours. The core lattice structure, materials, print process, and our finishing and glassing methods remain Swellcycle’s.
  • Confidentiality goes both ways. We keep your unreleased designs confidential, and we ask the same for anything non-public you learn about our tech, process, pricing or plans.
  • We work with many shapers, and design ideas can converge independently. Where another shaper’s work didn’t touch your files or data, that’s outside the scope of this promise, and we’ll always be transparent about how we work.
