Pol Riera with Spina Shapes

I’ve been shaping surfboards for seven years, and I believe it’s essential for everyone to experience shaping their own boards. My background from the Mediterranean inspired me to experiment continuously, a practice I enhanced further in California by deepening my knowledge of different surfboard designs.

I’m excited about the potential changes in the industry, particularly towards sustainable manufacturing. I look forward to exploring how new technologies and materials can improve surfboard performance in the water by altering the internal structure of the boards.

The Concept

With the bottom contours of a high-performance shortboard and a refined mid-rail, "The Eddie" finds itself in the perfect hybrid position. Its slightly mellow rocker ensures speed, while offering a balanced blend of pivot and drive. This versatile board is approachable for those seeking performance, yet maintains the distinctive and alternative feel of a modern twin fin.

Technology

LATTICE

The intricate engineering of the internal lattice structure is designed to enhance performance by optimizing flexural and torsional responsiveness across the board. This advanced configuration ensures balance of flexibility and strength, providing a uniquely surfing experience tailored to this shape.

MATERIALS

Innovative core made from recycled PETG sourced from hospital trays. It is encased in a bio-based Entropy epoxy resin, complemented by a robust 6oz Hexcel fiberglass layer on the bottom and dual 4oz Hexcel fiberglass layers on the deck. This combination not only ensures superior durability and performance but also underscores our commitment to sustainability.

Deck Profile

Strategically designed for optimal buoyancy, the deck features increased volume under the chest, tapering into a refined rail extending towards the nose. This design enhances paddling strength, allowing for swift acceleration and sustained momentum across the wave.

img

Rocker Profile

The board boasts a relatively flat rocker beneath the chest, facilitating effortless wave catching. It incorporates slightly enhanced entry and exit rockers compared to a traditional fish design, ensuring superior hold in steep waves. This configuration combines the swift, smooth glide of a fish with the dynamic capabilities of a more aggressive surfing style.

Bottom

Beginning with a mellow single concave under the front foot, the design subtly transitions into a mild double concave through the central channel, ending in a spiral vee off the tail. This innovative bottom contour not only accelerates speed but also promotes seamless rail-to-rail transitions and effective drive from the back foot.
